城南大学付属病院から生後1週間の赤ちゃん、ノゾミが誘拐された。彼女はノーベル賞間近といわれる物理学者、近森博と、元マラソン選手の優子の子供で、3時間おきに水を与えないと脱水症状を起こすという命にかかわる病気を持っている。助産士はノゾミを優子に渡したと言い張り、優子はもらっていないと言い争いになる。病院側は警察を呼ぶが、母親は事情聴取に応じない。近森夫妻の優秀な子供だから狙われたというのが警察の最初の見解であった。警察上層部は「妊婦だから捜査に最適」という理由だけで翌日から産休の予定だった速水悠里を捜査に加える。
